Official rules and policies for Blue Beach Volleyball leagues
🌴 Blue Beach Volleyball League Rules & Info 🏐
📋 Team Requirements & Rosters
Minimum Players (on each team's roster):
6s: Minimum 6 players
4s: Minimum 4 players
Doubles (2s): Minimum 2 players
Rostered Player Requirement (on the court):
6s: At least 3 rostered players must be on the court
4s: At least 2 rostered players must be on the court
Doubles (2s): At least 1 rostered player must be on the court
Extra Players = Extra Fun (+$20):
Got more than the minimum? Great! Reach out via email if you need to add additional players to your roster.
Subs Allowed (With Limits):
Subs are allowed during the regular season
No subs during playoffs — all players must be on the official roster and paid. No exceptions
⏰ Timing & Attendance
Be on Time:
10 minutes late = loss of first set (5 minutes for Fall Leagues)
15+ minutes late = match forfeited
Teams are still welcome to play during their time slot, but the result will not count
Match Time Limit:
Matches are capped at 55 minutes (40 minutes for Fall Leagues)
If unfinished, report the score as-is
Please clear the court promptly for the next teams
Match times may be adjusted in future weeks
🚫 Cancellations, No-Shows & Forfeits
Communication:
Teams are expected to notify league staff as early as possible if they cannot attend a scheduled match. Advance notice allows for potential adjustments.
Late Cancellations:
Cancellations within 24 hours of match time are considered a late cancellation
No-Shows:
Teams that do not show up without notice will receive a forfeit loss
Incident Tracking & League Removal:
After 1 late cancellation and/or no-show, a team will receive a warning.
Teams that reach 2 total incidents may be removed from the league schedule or deemed ineligible for playoffs
Refund Policy:
Teams removed from the league due to excessive cancellations or no-shows are not eligible for a refund
Forfeits:
Opponent is awarded a win
Staff may attempt to arrange a scrimmage when possible (not guaranteed)
☁️ Weather & Cancellations
Rain or Shine… Mostly:
Matches will be played in the rain
Lightning:
Delays or cancellations may occur if lightning is in the area
Stay in the Know:
Updates will be sent via email and posted on the website on game day
📝 Scoring & Reporting
Self-Reffed Play:
Matches are self-officiated
Play honestly and respectfully
If teams cannot agree on a call, replay the point
Score Reporting:
Winning team reports scores at bluebeachvb.com by end of day
Losing team should verify accuracy and report issues within 24 hours
After 24 hours, scores are final
🔁 Side Switching
To keep play fair in outdoor conditions:
6s & 4s:
Switch sides at point 11 in Sets 1 & 2
Switch sides at point 8 in a 3rd set
Doubles (2s):
Switch sides every 7 points
🚫 Gameplay Rules
No "girl touch" rule
No blocking or attacking serves
Absolutely NO net contact — touching the net anywhere results in a point for the other team.
In 6s, players must rotate as in a traditional 6 player volleyball format. 4s are not required to rotate, but must rotate their server.
Crossing Under the Net:
Allowed only if:
No interference with opponents
No impact on an active play
